Our Story

A Garlic Love Affair!

Welcome to Willow River Garlic!  Many growers credit their start to a background history in farming. Although Dan has had experience farming early in his life, our business was formulated with a love affair for the actual garlic itself!

Our story starts in 2012 when we were married. From the beginning, we found that what made us happiest was coming home after work, usually with a glass of wine, and creating a fabulous evening meal together. We grew to love the time spent cooking and often talked about what we enjoyed. After a while we noticed that many of our conversations centered around garlic and how it enhanced the flavors. That prompted us to learn more about the different flavors and types of organically grown hardneck garlic.

Organically Grown Wisconsin Hardneck Garlic

Residing in the St. Croix River Valley of Hudson Wisconsin, our property sits upon a few acres of beautiful fertile land. Our acreage stayed untouched until 2019 when Dan had the brilliant idea of marrying our love for garlic and the perfect land plot that we have onsite. Thus, Willow River Garlic was formed! The land was promptly plowed, soil tested, organically enriched, and ready to grow our own organically grown specialty garlic. Our purchased seeds were both organically grown or organically certified. So today we are now proud to offer our own high quality, locally grown organic hardneck garlic.

During the growing season, we have found our boutique style farmland is a perfect setting to play out our passion for the love of the outdoors, organic gardening, and plenty of hands-on physical activity.

In the off season, Dan is a commercial painter and I am an elementary school teacher. We have enjoyed our careers over the years, but now when it comes to growing garlic... WE LOVE IT!!!  So much so, that I will be retiring soon to spend my time focusing on growing the best varieties of hardneck garlic in the Valley.

  - Warmly,

Nancy & Dan of Willow River Garlic
